Sorry its a little late, but it has been a busy week for me. Here are the biggest stories this week!

Michael K. Williams Joins Young Han Solo Spinoff

Variety reported this week that the highly underrated Michael K. Williams has joined the young Han Solo movie. The reporter who broke this story, Justin Kroll, also tweeted later in the week that he is hearing Williams might be playing the villain in the movie. I love this casting, Williams is great in everything he does and its hard to find a bad performance from him. When it came out that he might be playing the villain, fans started to speculate that he might be playing Cad Bane, a character from the Clone Wars animated series. This would be super exciting because Bane is an exciting character because he is based on a western gunslinger. That would be super fun to watch on the big screen. The Untitled Han Solo Spinoff stars Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton and Woody Harrelson and opens on May 25th, 2018.

Pentagon Papers Movie in Development with Spielberg, Hanks and Streep

Deadline reported this week that Hollywood heavyweights, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep are set to partner on movie titled The Post. The film will center on the Washington Post’s publication of the Pentagon Papers in 1971. Hanks will play editor Ben Bradlee, previously portrayed by Jason Robards in All the President’s Men, and Streep will play publisher Kay Graham. This is really exciting news and I hope Spielberg makes this his next movie after he finishes post-production on Ready Player One. To see these three come together for a film would be mesmerizing and given the subject matter even more fascinating. There is no release date at this time.

Margot Robbie to Star in Marian

In another story by Deadline they have reported that Sony has bought the rights to a spec script titled Marian and set Margot Robbie to star. Marian tells the story of Maid Marian who witnesses the death of Robin Hood and decides to pick up the mantle in order to the lead the people in a war to save the kingdom. This has been a highly sought after script, with many studios vying for it so I have to assume it is good. Margot Robbie is a talented actress and after Wolf of Wall Street I will buy anything she does. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. There is no release date at this time.

Eva Green, Danny DeVito in Talks to Join Dumbo

Deadline was on a roll this week as they also broke the news of two castings for Disney and Tim Burton’s upcoming live action Dumbo remake. First on Tuesday they broke that new Burton muse, Eva Green, is in talks for one of the three main adult roles in the movie. Then on Thursday they broke the news that Danny DeVito was in talks to play Medici, the man who owns the small that gets taken over by the movie’s main villain. While I am not too keen on the idea of live action Dumbo remake, Burton’s sensibilities fit perfectly for this film and these two actors are great. I will give it a shot, but I don’t want to get my hopes up. Once again there is no release date at this time, but production is expected to start soon.

Joe Carnahan Exits Bad Boys 3

One of the silliest franchises of all time was created by none other than Michael Bay and that franchise is the Bad Boys franchise. Starring Martin Lawrence and Will Smith as wild card detectives the last movie came out in 2003 and now we have a third one in development. The ever busy Joe Carnahan was going to direct the movie, but on Tuesday we got word from THR that Carnahan had left the project. There is no clear reason why, but sources say scheduling conflicts and/or creative differences might have led to the split. This is disappointing for fans of the franchise because Carnahan was a great fit for this movie and he is a rising star at the moment. I am inclined to believe the scheduling conflicts reason as Carnahan is set to write and direct The Raid remake and has written scripts for Uncharted and X-Force. There is no replacement at this time and Bad Boys For Life is set to hit theaters on November 9th, 2018, but expect that to change if a director is not found soon.

Jason Momoa Signs on for Just Cause Movie

One of the more popular video game franchises of the last decade has been Square Enix’s Just Cause games. The game, follows Rico Rodriguez, who is an operative for an organization known as the Agency. Basically you just run around completing missions and blowing stuff up. Well like any good property they are developing a movie of it and Deadline is reporting that Jason Momoa has signed on to play Rodriguez. San Andreas’ Brad Peyton is set to direct. I have no idea what to think of this. I have never played the games, only seen game plays on Youtube. It seems like it could be a decent idea for a dumb fun action movie. We will see what happens with this one as more details emerge. A release date has not been set as of yet.

Hugh Jackman Replaces Christian Bale in Ferrari Biopic

After a few years of inactivity, Michael Mann’s biopic of Enzo Ferrari is now moving forward and it has switched out stars. Deadline reports that the project is now moving forward with Hugh Jackman set to play the Italian race car driver and entrepreneur. Noomi Rapace is also in talks to play Ferrari’s estranged wife. Christian Bale was originally set to star, but dropped out due to concerns about gaining weight for the role. I am always down for any biopic and this one sounds like it could be very interesting. Mann is a great director and Jackman has proven himself again and again to be highly capable actor. There is no release date as of right now, but if production starts soon expect the movie to hit sometime in 2018.

Zazie Beets Cast as Domino in Deadpool 2

Deadpool 2 has finally found one of their main cast members and no it is not Cable. Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter yesterday to reveal that relative unknown Zazie Beets will be playing the mutant Domino in the sequel. Beets hasn’t had a long career and her most well known experience is appearing in six episodes of Donald Glover’s hit show Atlanta. Domino is a mutant who can control probability so that situations always break in her favor. This overall is exciting to me because it seems like they found the right person for this role. They got someone who would not overshadow Reynolds in the main role and who has a comedy background. Plus it never hurts to bring more diversity to the super hero world. I am excited to see what she can bring to the role. Deadpool 2 is set to hit theaters on March 2nd, 2018.

Nathan Fillion, Kerry Washington Join Cars 3 Cast

While many have not been asking for a Cars 3 we are getting one and now that the promotional campaign has started the voice cast is starting to be released. We already knew that franchise stalwarts Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shaloub and Cheech Marin were coming back and recently we found out that Armie Hammer would be playing the villain. We also found out that Cristela Alonzo would be playing a new ally of Lightning McQueen. This week People revealed three new cast members. Nathan Fillion has joined the cast as a businessman named Sterling, Kerry Washington will play a sports car named Natalie Certain and Orange is the New Black cast member Lea DeLaria will play a character named Miss Fritter. The trailers have been promising for this movie and I like the cast, but it is really hard for me to get excited for another Cars movie. I know kids will love it though because Lightning McQueen is a favorite among a majority of them, so Disney will once again make a butt load of money. The movie is set to hit theaters this summer on June 16th, 2017.
