Earlier today Disney dropped the third trailer for the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, titled Dead Men Tell No Tales. In the nearly two and a half minute trailer we get a lot more information about the plot of the movie. We learn that the villain of the movie, the ghostly Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), is searching for Jack Sparrow because Salazar was a pirate hunter once and Jack lead Salazar to his death. Salazar now wants his revenge and it looks like he has enlisted fan favorite character, Captain Barbossa, to help him. Along the way we also see Jack getting help from two new characters, Henry (Brenton Thwaites) and then Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario). Henry is a British soldier, who according to his character bio, is trying to reconnect with his father while Carina is tough no nonsense fighter who is key to the search for McGuffin of the movie, the Trident of Poseidon.

The trailer overall is really fun providing a look at some of the action to be had in the movie as well as the trademark wonky humor of the franchise. A lot people are tired of the franchise at this point, but I love it just the same. Its entertaining enough and Jack Sparrow may be Johnny Depp’s best character. The action looks great and the CGI mostly on point. The only bad CGI seems to come in the deaged Jack Sparrow we see at the beginning of the trailer. Bardem looks to be portraying a menacing and fun villain which is key to a good Pirates movie. Not seen in this trailer, but confirmed through the Super Bowl trailer, is the return of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner, the new captain of the Flying Dutchman. It will be great to see him return to the franchise and the theory is that Thwaites’ Henry is actually his son. Also said to be returning is Keira Knightley’s Elizabeth Swan which would be awesome as well. The other thing this trailer does is call back to that awesome Pirates of the Caribbean theme. In my opinion, the scores of the Pirates movies are some of the most underrated when it comes to big blockbuster movies. Those scores do not get talked about enough. Overall this was a great trailer and I am actually really looking forward to this movie. Drop a comment below and let me know what you thought about this trailer!
